When I reviewed my Game plan to include NETS –S in my daily lesson plans and to start a technology group that will educate other teachers at my school on how to incorporate technology in their lesson plans without too much chaos, I was happy to see that I am on my way to achieving these goals. I have posted the NETS-S in my lesson plan book and try to make sure I am doing something everyday to help my students gain proficiency in technology. I think by getting my Masters degree and by starting a dialogue at my school about technology and how to add elements of NETS-S to already intact plans without too much chaos I am also helping my school environment. I can definitely see how the teacher and studnet standards are connected.I think it will be easy to do add both to daily lessons and I look forward to the results.
1.Facilitate and Inspire Student Learning and Creativity-
I will facilitate and inspire my students by trying new ideas involving technology. I will not be afraid of failing while doing so and I will take notes so the next time each lesson will improve.
2.Design and Develop Digital-Age Learning Experiences and Assessments I will ask my peers for help and guidance when using new technology like Digital Storytelling. I am very excited about D.S. it seems to really enhance learning and I have several ideas for the spring.
3.Model Digital-Age Work and Learning- I will use technology in my classroom and in my daily life to communicate with my peers, students and parents by using a blog with information about what we are doing in class.
4.Promote and Model Digital Citizenship and Responsibility I will promote and model digital etiquette and responsible social with my students and help develop cultural awareness with my students by doing projects that engage students from other countries.
5.Engage in Professional Growth and Leadership
I will finish my Masters in Technology and I will continue to help other interested teachers add technology to their lessons while I try to persuade our principal to try to get everyone to increase the technology they use in their classrooms.

Mary,
ReplyDeleteI have one comment and one observation. I very much like the idea of pasting the standards in the day book. By doing this there is a constant reminder of the goals for both students and teachers in the use of technology. This is a handy way of generating those standards right into the lesson as planning happens. Very efficient. I also noticed that the standards for teachers were almost synonymous to that of the students’ standards. This situation is an advantage to me at this time. I feel as though I am discovering and learning both of the standards at the same time. Because they fit so well together, the learning curve is not as steep as if they were two very different entities.

Mary,
ReplyDeleteI like how you broke down each standard and discussed ways you can work that standard into your teaching. You are right, the teacher and student are definitely connected, which i think will make it easier to incorporate without too much chaos. I think that your idea for #3, to create a blog to communicate with peers, students, and parents, will be beneficialto your classroom. Good luck with implementing that!
Mary,
ReplyDeleteYou had some really good ideas in your post and a great way of breaking the standards down. I really like that you have the NETS standards posted in your lesson plan book. I have them in my technology notebook--but I need to put a copy in my lesson plan book. Also I like the idea that you take notes after you give a lesson on what works and what does not work. I tend to make mental notes--and this does not always work! You will love digital storytelling my students love it!
Hi Mary!
ReplyDeleteI think it's a great idea to include the NETS-S standards in your lesson plans. By doing so, you are making a conscious effort to infuse those technology skills students need growing up in the 21st century. I also applaud your effort to help your school become more technology savvy. Sharing your lesson plans with colleagues to show how easy it is to incorporate the standards may help ease some of their apprehension. Best of luck as you continue implementing these new skills!
I like your idea of promoting and modeling Digital Citizenship and Responsibility and engaging your students with international students. I think it plays a very important role in today's 21st century learning classrooms.
ReplyDeleteAre you planning to share your class blog with the world? Will the students have their own blogs connected to the class blog, as well?
Mary,
ReplyDeleteI enjoyed how you took ownership of each goal. Instead of stating what your students will accomplish, you made it personal. Because of this, your students and the teachers in your school will gain from your experience. You are well on your way to successfully implementing technology into your classroom.
Thank you for all of your thoughts and comments. You have all been very helpful and I have enjoyed working with you all.
ReplyDeleteElif- I would love my students to have a broader audience, but I am apprehensive. I think that eventually I will add an international element, probably after I have done it for a little while. I think my students need more exposure to the world.
