Revising Your GAME Plan

• What have you learned so far that you can apply in your instructional practice?
What goals are you still working toward?
I have learned that lesson plans are works in progress and are never complete. I think I need to spend more time making sure I am achieving my intended results.

•Based on the NETS-T, what new learning goals will you set for yourself?
My goal is to add new NETS-T to my plans and always be prepared to update or change what I have.
If you are not ready to set new learning goals, how will you extend what you have learned so far?
I am always ready to set new learning goals, and I hope that next year I have not only retained what I have learned but I am sharing my knowledge with other teachers in my county.
• What learning approaches will you try next time to improve your learning?
I will try to use everything I learn so that it helps me remember what I have learned

  1. Mary,

I agree that lessons are works in progress. I do not think that the exact same lesson can be used from year to year. Although the basic framework is there, different students require different assignments to reach an outcome. This is an important fact to remember. There are too many teachers who pull out the same lesson year after year regardless of the learners they have in class.

Being willing to share your work and expertise with others is something more teachers could work on. I feel that we do not take advantage of each others' skills enough as teachers. Creating networks and collaboration partners can make this profession easier than if we approach it as a profession to be done in isolation and left up to our own skills (no matter how good they are).

Just remember to use technology for a purpose, not just to use technology for the sake of using it. As great as it is to incorporate technology into lessons, there are lessons that can achieve outcomes without technology. At times, technology can make a good lesson better.

  2. Hi Mary,
Lesson plans--wow! They are job all by themselves sometimes. I post a simple outline of my lessons on www.k12lessonplans.com/ every week for my parents and this is effective. I also switch things up every year. The other day I did a lesson with my 7th graders and the 8th graders asked why I did not do that lesson last year! I think we all need a variety. Technology is an added addition to our lesson plans I feel. I think an effective teacher is like a fine wine----you get better with age! At least this is my hopes. I have to agree with Russ that as educators we do not take advantage of our peers expertise. I see some teachers who never ask for anyone's opinion, advice, or help. I think those are the same teachers who do the same lesson year after year as Russ stated. With todays technology, we do not even need to leave our room to ask someone their opinion. We all need to take advantage!

  3. Mary,

Lesson plans have a very important role in classroom instruction. I want to share a blog post from 2008. It is 3 years old and I still relate to how technology is integrated in the classrooms and 21st century learner's attitude towards it. Interesting: http://lessonplans.blogs.nytimes.com/2008/10/11/putting-technology-in-its-place/
