Monitoring Your GAME Plan Progress

I think I have all the resources I am going to need to finish my game plan. What I need is support from my fellow teachers and my administration. I mentioned before how difficult I found it to get help at this time of year. The holidays and are looming test dates are coming quick. I received an idea from one of my groups mates (Abby) who suggested a blog to answer and ask questions. I loved this idea because it would allow people to comment and participate without taking up too much of their time. I like the idea of my students helping come up with their own goals. They are leaving high school soon, I think the responsibility of meeting, and setting goals should be a high priority.

The idea of incorporating more technology seems easy enough, but I need to make sure that my students are still meeting standards and able to pass or make substantial gains in the state reading test. I teach Remedial Reading and we have a much regimented lesson plan/ curriculum. I am not allowed much creativity or leeway. This has been an issue for me from the beginning. I need to find ways to creatively add more technology to my lessons

  1. I know how things can get frustrating at this time of year with such an emphasis on state tests. A blog would be a great idea if you could get your administration to go for it and keep up with answering any questions that you and the rest of the faculty may have.

Especially in high school, it is important that your students know how to set goals for themselves. As they enter the real world and begin careers, they need to be prepared to look for jobs and know how to take appropriate actions to meet their goals.

Through the use of technology, your students could use internet programs to practice reading and set goals for themselves based on the results of their reading assessments. I believe that the use of such programs would be beneficial for students to pass standardized tests. It is unfortunate that you have such a strict curriculum to stick to, but maybe you could use the technology as a form of teaching and introducing concepts to students. They could also be given the opportunity to practice reading skills in games once they have completed their necessary class work. Best of luck in continuing to carry out your GAME plan!

I know all too well how frustrating it can be to get fellow teachers to try something new. I mentioned a project idea to my grade level a couple weeks ago and I was looked at as though I was an alien! I think at my school so many teachers feel like they are already being asked to implement so many programs that they do not have the energy to try something new, even if it might help students. I also think a lot of teachers do not realize how implementing technology can be beneficial and is not just a waste of time. Starting a blog would certainly be a good way to break the ice with co workers and slowly introduce them to some of the benefits of technology that we have been learning about. I am going to try something similar at my school, but with students- I hope to start an after school computer club. Good luck!! -Amber
